Announcing The Winners of the First Perception Challenge for Bin-Picking (BPC)

OpenCV and sponsors at Intrinsic, BOP, and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa are excited to announce the prize winners of the first Perception Challenge for Bin-Picking, first revealed at CVPR during the Perception for Industrial Robotics workshop. Beginning in February 2025, this challenge had over $60,000 at stake and over 450 teams vying for a share of the prizes. We send a sincere thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated this year- you all helped push the state-of-art forward and should be proud of your contributions even if you didn’t win a prize. Below are some photos from the workshop where the winners were announced:

Summarizing the amazing work by these teams, OpenCV CEO Dr. Satya Mallick said “The OpenCV Bin Picking Challenge demonstrated that true innovation goes beyond metric based leaderboards — our winners proved their AI models in the real world, on a real robot, where it truly matters. As the world stands on the cusp of a robotics revolution, healthy competition will be the fuel that drives real-world solutions. We are proud to be lighting the spark.”

Congratulations to all of the participants on these teams for their hard work and dedication.

Kartik Venkataraman, Head of Perception of Intrinsic, had the following to say at the conclusion of this challenge: “The recent Intrinsic Robotics Bin Picking Challenge for Perception stands as a testament to global innovation, drawing over 450 teams and yielding more than 50 strong submissions. We’re incredibly proud of the three winning teams who not only reached the final phase but also creditably demonstrated their solutions in a physical robotic workcell, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in automation. This competition has significantly accelerated the development of practical and robust bin picking solutions, underscoring our commitment to fostering advancements in robotics. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of these breakthroughs.”

See The Recorded Final Challenge Runs

The team at Intrinsic recorded the final phase wherein the teams code was run live on a real robot arm cell. You can find these recordings on the official OpenCV YouTube channel. In order to keep these videos short, they were sped up to limit the amount of time the arm was idle at normal speed. The final scores were:

  1. GBP2025 – 14
  2. SEU_WYL_trained – 13
  3. JPose – 13
  4. SEU_WYL_oneshot – 10
  5. bpc_participant_oneshot – 0

Watch The Live Webinar

OpenCV hosted a live webinar announcing the winners as part of the OpenCV Live weekly video series. The episode featured Vahe Taamazyan from Intrinsic and a presentation from the Grand Prize winning team GBP 2025. The recording is available on YouTube.

Thank You To The Sponsors

We’d like to once again thank the sponsors and partners who made this competition possible: Intrinsic, BOP, and University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Our partners at Intrinsic especially carried much of the technical load, and worked long hours to make this challenge a success.

Full results are available on the official 2025 competition website, but we aren’t done with the BPC yet! We’re planning some more posts from the winning teams and participants in the coming weeks. Thanks for joining us for this awesome challenge, and we hope to run another one soon.
